Satoshi Tajiri

Satoshi Tajiri was born August 28, 1965 in Machida, Japan. When he was growing up in rural Japan he enjoyed catching and collecting bugs. He wanted to entomologist, a person who studies bugs, but that did not happen.

He had a really tough time in school, often getting into fights and had trouble processing everything that was being taught to him. He was diagnosed with asperger syndrome, a syndrome that makes it difficult for a person to have social interaction. He had trouble doing everything but one thing: playing video games.

Satoshi would spend hours in the arcade and sometimes would ditch school for it. Nonetheless, he still made it to college and finish an associate at Tokyo Technical college focusing on computer science. In the nineties, he won a contest from a major video game company called Nintendo by submitting a video concept. That concept was his video game magazine called Game Freak. Nintendo then hired him to produce more of his magazines.

Years later, he wanted to create a video game based on his childhood hobby of catching and collecting bugs. He represented the idea to Nintendo and everyone but one member of the board thought the idea was too much. Shigeru Miyamoto was the board member that liked satoshi’s idea and mentored him to make his idea come true.

Thus pokemon was born.
